Pearl nursing started during the Meiji era of Japan, and has a history of over 100 years. Tanabe has been involved with pearl cultivation for four generations. Located in Shima city, Mie prefecture along the Ago Bay, the Tanabe Pearl Nursery is in the heartland of the Akoya pearl cultivation industry. Ago Bay is deep with a mild current and is warm throughout the year, which is ideal for pearl cultivation. We are proud of 100% authentic Japanese Akoya pearls grown in Shima. Our hopes are to introduce the beauty of Akoya pearls to the world.
